چکیده

Objectives Somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) are potential targets for detecting pituitary neuroendocrine tumours (PitNETs) that can be visualized effectively with 68Ga-labelled PET tracers. With this study, we have evaluated the diagnostic properties of such a tracer, 68Ga-DOTATOC, in patients hormone-producing PitNETs before and after surgery. Design/Methods This prospective case-control study presents preoperative positron emission tomography (PET) histopathological data 18 somatotroph (n = 8), corticotroph 7) thyrotroph 3) PitNETs. Patients were scanned pre- postoperatively 68Ga-DOTATOC PET. For postoperative part gonadotroph also included. Fifteen healthy controls underwent same protocol once. The maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) was analysed manually outlined regions around tumour gland controls. specimens collected during surgery subjects assessment adenohypophyseal cell type SSTR expression. Results Thyrotroph showed higher (median SUVmax 41.1; IQR 37.4-60.0) lower (SUVmax 6.8; 2.6-9.3) than normal 13.8; 12.1-15.5). 15.9; 11.6-19.7) similar to gland. There strong correlation between SSTR2 expression (r .75 (P < .01)). In evaluation, able correlate tracer biochemical cure noncure an abnormal magnetic resonance image > 13.8. Conclusions used detect imaging assessment. Corticotroph had significantly compared but without distinct increased clinical is limited.

The role of positron emission tomography (PET) in diagnostics of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (GEP NET).

PET is a successful modality to detect cancer and in recent years has demonstrated a great diagnostic value in large series of tumour types. PET combines high sensitivity and reasonable resolution, and offers the ability to perform whole body scans. 18F-deoxyglucose (FDG)-PET has also been used to diagnose tumours of neuroendocrine origin. Even if 18F-FDG has been successfully and widely employ...

Imaging Cellular Proliferation in Prostate Cancer with Positron Emission Tomography

Prostate cancer remains a major public health problem worldwide. Imaging plays an important role in the assessment of disease at all its clinical phases, including staging, restaging after definitive therapy, evaluation of therapy response, and prognostication. Positron emission tomography with a number of biologically targeted radiotracers has been demonstrated to have potential diagnostic and...

The effect of fasting on Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging

As a nuclear approach, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a functional imaging technique which is based on the detection of gamma ray pairs emitted by a positron-emitting radionuclide. There are certain limitations to this technique such as normal tissue uptake. Therefore, it has been recommended that patients prepare before scanning. Fasting for a short while before PET imaging is an exampl...

commonly combined with computed tomography (CT), is widely used in the initial evaluation and response assessment of patients with Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL). Its sensitivity for nodal and extranodal sites of disease can add to the staging information obtained with CT alone, and PET is valuable in the response assessment at the end of front-line therapy because it can distinguish active disease fr...
